Study on Applicability of Seismic Residual Deformation Analysis by Slip Surface Constitutive Equation
Satoru OHTSUKA
In recent years, a lot of large-scale earthquakes have taken place in Japan. The Mid-Niigata prefecture earthquake took place in 2004 and the Tohoku Pacific Ocean earthquake in 2011. They have caused a heavy need to consider level ¶ ground motion in designing earth structures. However, the design to keep earth structures safety against these great earthquakes costs a lot. Unfortunately, it is not real in design practice. It is, therefore, reasonable to allow a certain amount of damage in extent to prevent from severe damage against large-scale earthquakes. Since the seismic stability of earth structures has been asses by safety factor, a method of assessing a residual displacement of earth structure against earthquake has not been established. This study carried out to study on the applicability of seismic residual displacement analysis based on slice method. This proposed a slip surface constitutive equation of earth structure newly and examined its applicability in detail, especially on slip line employed for residual displacement assessment.
The following conclusions were obtained in this study.
1) The proposed method was equivalent to the Newmark method, but it was shown to be applicable to the static problem which could be solved by the Newmark method.
2) The method to determine a slip surface for residual displacement assessment was proposed. However, the obtained slip surface was found to be almost same with that of the conventional method.
