Fundamental Study on the Road Surface Property Using the Vehicle Interior Noise

Yasuyuki MIYAKI

Test using sound in the non-destructive testing can be done easily further, it”Ēs versatile. In addition, it is relatively easy to measure the vehicle interior noise. In this study, author focused on the noise in the vehicle. Therefore, author presented a fundamental study to demand an evaluation method for the damage of the road pavement from the change of the noise.
As the method of measurement, the noise was measured by the sound level meter. These noise were compared those measured at the roadside with those measured in the vehicle. As a result, the unnecessary sound is measured in the measurement at the roadside. On the other hand, it is clear that the unnecessary sound is not measured in the vehicle, because the noise is not affected from external factors.
Thus, setting the sound level meter in the vehicle was adopted as the method. Further, from the result of measurement, the factors of changing the noise was demonstrated to be road conditions, vehicle type and the speed. Therefore, these conditions should be considered to evaluate the characteristics of the road surface.
Then the GPS survey by the smartphone application as how to adapt the noise data with the position information was used.As a result, it was possible to associate the position information and noise data with high precision
About the challenges of the future, the smartphone application includes the function of the sound-level meter, so we should examine the introduction of that method.
