Loading Properties after Rebar Corrosion of RC Member Using a Stainless Steel Rebar

Takumi SHIMOMURA

Corrosion of rebar by chloride ions, is the largest problem for reinforced concrete structure. Stainless steel rebar, to produce a passive film by chromium, is excellent in corrosion resistance. Therefore, research stainless steel reinforcing bars is assumed that the corrosion is unprecedented. However, to understand the impact of the structure due to corrosion is essential in advancing the spread.
In prior experiments were carried out electrolytic corrosion test of stainless rebar in naked state. As a result, it stainless rebar is corrosion state by electrodeposition method and food, I was able to confirm that it is possible to rust removal by citric acid hydrogen diammonium aqueous solution. Also, electrolytic corrosion coefficient became 0.897.
In RC member using a stainless steel reinforcing bars, it was performed compliant electrolytic corrosion test BMT is the previous studies.Corrosion form of stainless steel rebar, became a wide range of pitting. This is due to the strong passive film is think that the allowed limited corrosion range. In addition, in the present experiment, corrosion cracking was significantly extensively occur. This is, I can think due to specific corrosion forms and specimen created accuracy.
I was carried out loading test in accordance with the BMT.Failure mode in this experiment was a fixing unit after the destruction of rebar yield. This causes a large corrosion cracking leads to the fixing part and is considered to be a corrosion cracking along the stirrup. In addition, comparison of the ratio of the ultimate load was also performed. As a result, in this experiment, significant reduction in the load ratio with increasing cross-section reduction occurs. As the reason, since fracture morphology is pitting, it is considered to be because the decrease of the cross section was estimated reduced. In addition, the fixing unit destroyed, it is believed that the ultimate load itself is also affected that was smaller.
