Impact on the Niigata Prefecture Coastal Areas of Earthquake Tsunami that Occur in the Sea of Japan

Tokuzou HOSOYAMADA

The Great East Japan Earthquake and later, great earthquake occurrence prediction has been carried out in various locations. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the tsunami which is expected to occur in Niigata Prefecture coastal areas. The disaster prevention from the tsunami, there is a need for such rapid evacuation and ensure appropriate shelter and ensure proper evacuation route. Information required for this is the presence or absence and the arrival time and size and propagation conditions of the tsunami. Current tsunami bulletins, after a few minutes of the earthquake, is informed the presence or absence and the scale and arrival time of tsunami. However, Niigata city because it is low-lying, such as residents of coastal areas close to the epicenter, it is desirable to be able to quickly determine such as the possibility of tsunami generation.
In this study, we improved the criteria to determine the presence or absence of the occurrence of tsunami from the information on the magnitude and epicenter depth of the earthquake. And, from the information in the tsunami bulletins, were devised a method to grasp the scale and the presence or absence of tsunami. Also, consider the method of calculating the maximum water level variation by using the Green's law, was carried out applied behavior prediction in a virtual tsunami of Niigata Prefecture off the coast. In addition, by using the method of obtaining the uplift and sedimentation volume and area of the earthquake from the information in the earthquake, we applied behavior prediction in a virtual tsunami of Niigata Prefecture off the coast.
