The capital city of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar is developing in very unique way with sudden increase of population and vehicles without infrastructure implementing. 46% of population is concentrating in the area of less than 1% of whole country. Also, the average speed of vehicle is decreasing from 40[km/h]to 25[km/h]in the recent 10 years. In this situation, Ulaanbaatar city government had decided to implement new transportation system of both BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) and MRT (Mass Rapid Transit) along the main corridor of the city, Peace Avenue, without pre-evaluation of its route pattern. Therefore, in this study, we offer 5 scenarios which are considering public transportation route and evaluate by comparing the assignment result to choose best scenario using transportation micro simulation of Paramics.
This study consists of 3 steps. Firstly, we built disaggregate activity model by using Person Trip Data which had held in 2007 and built aggregate model for all zone pai with the parameters of disaggregate model which has built beforehand. Secondly, we check the basic network which had built in the computer by using the traffic turn survey data which has held in main 60 intersection in 2011. Lastly, we made the networks of 5 different scenario on the basic network that has check before with OD traffic volume which had computed from the aggregate model that we built before.
Consequently, by calculating with the average number of passenger of 2 persons in one car vehicle, scenarios which had offered in this study gave maximum 16.7% traffic reduction. Especially, scenario without MRT but extended BRT is only 4000 of over traffic than scenario of UB city. Which means that even without MRT, by optimizing other public transportation route pattern, traffic congestion during peak hour can be controlled. The assignment of this study is optimizing the public transportation routes with BRT route in the estimated basic network, and also we should analyze by comparing benefit/cost analysis with considering environmental effect.
