Control on Chamber Pressure and Slurry Level of Mix Shield by Prototype Test

Recently, more precise control method on face pressure of slurry shield is being adopted at outside of Japan, combining air pressure control at the upper part of an air chamber, which is equipped at the tunnel side of a cutter chamber, with conventional slurry flow control. However, the air pressure control method has not yet been made clear, such as supply and exhaust air flow, supply air pressure, its control method, and so on.
Therefore, this research aims to grasp the feature and the control method of the air combined system by prototype test, to apply this air combined system to practice.
As a result, the feature of the air combined system compared with the conventional system, the factors which affect air pressure in the air combined system and their mechanism, and their extent were made clear. Furthermore, the fundamental information for applying the air combined system in practice was obtained
