Title Study on fatigue resistance of a strain dispersion type buried joint using HPM in binder course.

Goose asphalt mixture, a type of mastic HMA, is usually applied in a binder course of the grid panel type buried joint.
However, it is difficult to prepare Goose asphalt mixture recently in Japan. Moreover further high performances are also required on the binder course mixture. A high polymer mixture (HPM) has been proposed as an alternative material.
In this study, various evaluation tests for the HPM and a fatigue test for the grid panel type buried joint using HPM were carried out. The objectives of the study are to clarify fundamental characteristics of the HPM as a binder course mixture in the buried joint and to assess the fatigue failure resistance of the buried joint using the HPM in the binder course.
Applicability of the HPM on the buried joint was investigated from the tests.
The test results show that the HPM has better performances in view points of not only fatigue resistance but also rutting resistance than Goose asphalt mixture as an HMA for the binder course. I was concluded that applicability of the HPM on the buried joint is very high
