Study on Simplification of Stress Measurement of the Steel Bridge Using a Magnetostrictive Method

Masatsugu Nagai

When examining remained power of proof a load of a steel bridge analytically, it is necessary to set up remaining stress distribution of a steel component appropriately. It is necessary to clarify remaining stress distribution of a existing bridge by measurement, because it has many questions. In this research, the focused a magnetostrictive method which can measure remaining stress.
By the magnetostrictive method, when the direction of the main stress measured is not clear, it is necessary to rotate 45 degrees of sensors at a time in one measuring point, and to measure 4 times (the 4 direction measurement). In the stress measurement by a magnetostrictive method, measurement takes time. When the direction of the main stress is clear, only one of four directions of the direction of main stress is measured (the 1 direction measurement). In this research aims at simplification of the stress measurement by the magnetostrictive method for an object the steel component which has become clear the distribution and direction of remaining stress.
Then it is aimed at the box form section component of the removed steel truss bridge, remaining stress measurement by the mechanical method of section and the simple technique of the magnetostrictive method was carried out.The remaining stress distribution obtained by the mechanical method of section and the simple technique showed good coincidence.
A future subject is expand to the simple technique of magnetostrictive method which applied to I form section component.
