Simplification of analysis method for a falling rock protection with buffer devices

Eiji Iwasaki

In Japan, lots of falling rock disasters are occurring from influence such as earthquake and climate etc. Then there are numerous falling rock protections, but these methods include some problem in safety because those need work on the slope in the construction. To solve this problem, the methods have to be improved concerning process of construction.
Therefore in past research, the behavior of falling rock protections with the buffer device is become clear. Moreover, this behavior is become clear by simulation in dynamic response analyses. However, it was a problem that dynamic response analysis requires computational cost. Therefore this paper, the analysis method is simplified more by changing into static response analysis from dynamic response analysis.
The buffer device is equipment that absorbs the falling rock energy by convert that energy into frictional force on wire-rope of falling rock protection¡¥In this paper, the tension is defined as 55kN by considering about the result of the evaluation test. This value is used in the analysis process.
In the simulation process, the result of static response analysis was compared with the result of¡¡dynamic response analysis. After the reproduction process, the behavior of falling rock protection under the various model conditions was clarified in static response analysis. Moreover, the easy formula which can calculate a value required for the construction of falling rock protection was made from the static response analysis result.
In conclusion, the falling rock protection can be estimated by static response analysis
