Study on Structural Health Monitoring Based on Vibration and Guided Elastic Wave for Local Damage Detection of Bridges

Masatsugu Nagai

As a method of bridge maintenance, vibration monitoring studies focused on the relationship between damage and dynamic performance has been carried out actively. But, depending on the type of format or damage of bridges, it is sometimes difficult to detect the damage.
In this study, examined vibration and wave monitoring procedures which detect local damage. Local damage is damage in which it difficult to detect from change of the dynamic characteristics of a total bridge system. In this study, its attention was paid to the fracture of a cable in prestressed concrete bridge and damage of the cable in cable stayed bridge.
Focused on the sound which occurs when PC cable fractures, we decided to develop the sound system using a concrete microphone towards detection of PC cable fracture. And performed basic examination towards the acoustic monitoring in the existing bridge.
In order to identify the fracture sound of PC cable out of the vehicles run sound always measured, we grasped the characteristics of vehicles run sound and PC cable fracture sound. Toward grasp the characteristic of vehicles run sound, carried out sound measurement on the Myoko-ohashi Bridge. And toward grasp the characteristic of PC cable fracture sound, carried out the experiment which makes prestressing tendon fracture by electrolytic corrosion.
That was conducted to measure the vibration of cables using new LDV for the detection of damage to the cable-stayed bridge, using invisible light, we focus on the changing dynamic characteristics. In addition, create a finite element model of the cable, carried out eigenvalue analysis, we examined the relationship between damage and the dynamic characteristics of the cable
