The examination of the function evaluation method in physical anti-frozen pavement
Guided by Prof. Osamu Takahashi
The winter road surface management have been an important concern in snowy cold regions. The development of the freezing-prevention pavement has been carried out as one of winter road surface management methods.
This study investigated a physical anti-frozen pavement which contains elastic materials inside the surface layer and can break surface ice by loading of vehicles. However, an evaluation method of breaking effect hasn't been established, and the mechanism of breaking surface ice hasn't also been cleared.
This study implemented the ice break test as the new evaluation test, and verified its validity. The effect of breaking the ice was estimated by measuring friction of the ice surface using a slid resistance tester (BPN method) and the image analysis.
The results showed that it is possible to use the ice break test as the function evaluation method in physical anti-frozen pavement. And propose this as the new evaluation test.
