Japanese rivers has been witness on countless occasions to flood damage in the past.Fluvial engineering works was conducted, river environment such as the running water function or growth environment of the fish changes. One of the changes in the environment the river, there is a change of riverbed gravels. The riverbed gravels investigation is carried out as a part of recovery, the maintenance of the river environment. This is aimed for grasp of the action by erosion, transportation, the sedimentation of riverbed gravels. Therefore, the riverbed gravels investigation is useful to fluvial engineering works riverbed gravelsĄ„
Conventional riverbed gravels survey to measure the particle size of to riverbed gravels target mainly. However, there is feature shape such as the area, the outer circle diameter, the inner circle diameter other than particle size.In this research, we intended to measure the shape features of a conventional riverbed gravels investigation could not be measured to create an index that replaces the conventional particle size accumulation curve. In this research, we measured the area and the outer circle diameter, inner circle diameter, circularity, anisometry of the shape feature quantity of riverbed gravels.
As a result, we were able to grasp the characteristic that the riverbed gravels of each spot had from feature shape such as the area and the outer circle diameter, inner circle diameter, circularity, anisometry. In addition, by measuring the shape features on the image, we were able to create an index to replace the particle size accumulation curve. And we were able to measure shape features automatically without measuring it like a conventional investigation directly by analysis of the riverbed gravels image
