Study of way to grasp condition of crops growth by farm field unit

Atsushi RIKIMARU, Hiroki IRIE

ĦĦThe sensor that has high spatial resolution and a lot of observation bands is necessary to grasp the condition of farm field crops growth by satellite data. The ETM+ sensor of the Landsat7 satellite observes the ground by the spatial resolution as 30 meters. However, it is difficult to get a data without covered clouds, because Landsat7 observes the same point only once in 16 days. Therefore, it is difficult by ETM+ sensor to monitor the crops growth continuously. On the other hand, MODIS sensor of the Terra/Aqua satellite observes the same point every day. But MODIS has low spatial resolution as 250 meters, and a pixel contain several reflectance such as farmland and roads, so it canĦÇt analyze the farm field in detail.
ĦĦIn this study, we invent a way to grasp condition of each farm field crops growth by MODIS data that is converted to information of farm field unit through GIS data created as each farm field.
We inspected the extent of farm field square measure that was able to grasp condition of farm field crops growth accurately by the way of this study in compared a result of analyze between MODIS data with ETM+ data as a reference.
ĦĦAs a result of the inspection, if farm field of more than one square kilometers, MODIS is able to grasp condition of farm field crops growth accurately by using the GIS data of farm field. In addition, it is able to grasp the seasonal condition of farm field crops growth by calculating the change in vegetation index. And, a farm field at least two square kilometers is necessary to calculate land surface temperature of each farm field accurately by the thermal infrared band of MODIS
