Title Study on fatigue crack characteristic and repair timing for the grid-panel-type buried joint
Advisor Osamu TAKAHASHI
Surface of general viaducts is discontinuous at expansion joints. The expansion joints raise not only noise and vibration but also damages of the joints themselves. Use of a buried joint is one of effective methods for joint-less surface of viaducts. However a buried joint is not durable in comparison with ordinary asphalt pavements. This study investigated the grid-panel-type buried joint, which is the most durable buried joint in Japan. In order to make a longer life and manage proper maintenance of the joint, it is necessary to understand actual situation on the fields and to discuss a effective repair work.
The objectives of the study are as follows;
(1) To clarify actual situations and conditions of the buried joint using the database,
(2) To evaluate a relationship between damage levels and repair effects on the buried joint,
(3) To grasp the crack characteristic and to propose appropriate repair timing based on the results obtained from above two topics.
