Study on Estimation and Distributive Characteristics of Airborne Salt Around the Bridge Section by Numerical Simulation

Recently, the decrease of life cycle cost (LCC) is an important problem in industry. In the case of steel bridge, the cost spent in maintenance increases LCC. Weathering steel has the performance of resistance to corrosion. Therefore, many weathering steels are used in field of bridge.
The main factor of the weathering steel corrosion is airborne salt. And, allowable quantities of less than airborne salt is 0.05mdd(mg/dm2/day). However, the amount of airborne salt on the bridge each part is different by the flow of the wind around the bridge section. Therefore, if the amount of airborne salt around the bridge section is predictable, the design of corrosion prevention that is appropriate for the corrosion environment on each part of bridge is possible.
In this study, to examine the possibility of the presumption of the airborne salt around the bridge section by the numerical simulation, observation of the airborne salt was done. And, airborne salt was reproduced by the numerical simulation as a particle. As a result, it was guessed that the airborne salt is predictable by the numerical simulation.
