Relation between surge generated in east part of Sado sea area and the weather

Tokuzo HOSOYAMADA , Naoyuki INUKAI

Our country has the coastline of 34,360km in the total extension. Therefore our country is always exposed to the danger by the tidal wave. it became a wintry atmospheric pressure on February 23,24 , 2008 and the heavy tidal wave occurred at the Sea of Japan side. The surge that was called Yorimawari wave occurred in the east part of Sado and Toyama bay. It goes south over the Sea of Japan and reaches the Toyama bay. Sado is located in the route. The purpose of the study is to understand the wave condition of Sado when the weather condition that the Yorimawari wave occur.
First the observational data of Sado is necessary for advancing the study. But it is only the coast of Niigata and Naoetsu to be able to acquire the observational data. I examined the comparison and the reration of the waves prediction result of Naoetsu and Kitakoura in east part of Sado. Moreover I looked for the weather chart when the Yorimawari wave occurred and similar weather chart. I examined the wave height and the cycle of Naoetsu of that time.
Result of comparing Naoetsu with Sitakoura, The numerical value wave height and the cycle were almost the same values. The wave height and the cycle of Kitakoura were about 1.2 times as large as that of Naoetsu on Februaly 24,2008. There was no reration for the wave direction. The feature in the weather chart when the Yorimawari wave occurred was able to be understood by examining the weather chart.
In this study, the possibility of expecting the wave condition of Kitakoura was able to be shown from the wave condition of Naoetsu when it was a weather chart where the Yorimawari wave seems to be occurrence
