A study on reservoir function of flood flow in Shinano river

The dam construction is very difficult because conservation of environment in getting more important and shortage of investment of public section. On the other hand, downpour near the maximum scale happens frequently in the history of the observation in recent years. A new flood control measures is "reservoir function of the river itself". Reservoir function includes the effect to bring cutting the peak discharge into the downstream and the delays at the peak flowing quantity attainment time. However, reservoir function doesn't appear uniformly because it changes according to the flow unsteadiness and the river channel shape. Evaluation of reservoir function of a river has difficulty. In this study, the flood flow in sinano river middle-streaming area was analyzed by using 2D unsteady numerical analysis by general coordinates to examine reservoir function. The following results were obtained.
1) The reservoir occurs for the flood rise period, and the size changes depending on the flood hydrograph.
2) In the flood that rises rapidly, the decrease of the peak discharge to the downstream grows.
3) When the flood flows in the flood channel, the reservoir grows.
4) The region where reservoir function was high was indicated in Shinano river concretely.
