Development of Niigata Digital Underground Map and Considerations on Assignments and Widespread Utilization

Satoru OHTSUKA

The purpose of this study is to develop the Niigata digital underground map as the project of developing the Japan digital underground map and to go over assignments and widespread utilization of developed map through the comparison with the liquefaction disaster in 1964 Niigata earthquake. Digital underground map is a digitized ground profile model defined for 250m square section and provides browsing and down loading services to the public.
Niigata digital underground map is developed for the area including the downtown of Niigata city from Sekiya diversion aqueducts of the Shinano to left bank of the Agano. The conclusions obtained from this study are as follows:
1.By collecting multitudes of boring core data from many public institutions, Niigata digital underground map was developed. It provides the macroscopic ground view of underground map.
2.Local information deteriorates by developing 250m square section model, but the digital underground map still exhibited not only global information, but also local information on ground property. Developed underground map was shown to provide the balanced information.
3.Niigata digital underground map illustrated that the liquefaction potential area by sand ground distribution N value of which was lower than 10 well corresponded to the disaster area in 1964 Niigata earthquake.
