The static and dynamic lateral resistance characteristics of the steel pipe pile foundation

Satoru Ohtsuka

The integrated column by multiple steel pipes has been proposed based on damage control design in the previous research. This design method intends to lead seismic damage into shear panels that connect each steel pipe. Shear panels are built up by low yield stress steel and have hysteretic energy dissipation property. They reduce the acceleration and displacement response of the column. In this paper, an innovative steel pipe pile foundation, in which each steel pipe of the column is supported by a connected steel pipe pile without a footing, is proposed as the rational type of foundation for the column. The lateral resistance characteristics in which the steel pipe pile foundation base was modeled was executed. The static lateral resistance characteristics and dynamic lateral resistance characteristics are investigated using three-dimensional finite element analysis considering superstructure-foundation-ground interaction.
