Examination of New Evaluation Figure and Reproduction Technique of Modified Asphalt

Teruhiko MARUYAMA

In The guide of recycling pavement, it define penetration value of the asphalt that extracted from old pavements must more than 20, in order to be used in recycled pavements, this standard value can be used for recycled straight asphalt pavement. On the other hand, It is known as recycled modified asphalt have a performance equal to or higher than straight asphalt, However, it is not easy to distinguish that recycled material contain modified asphalt or not. It has not evaluated properties of the recycled aggregate including the modified asphalt, utility of modified asphalt as recycled material is not cleared.
This study proposes the reproduction technique of asphalt pavement material including modified asphalt, with energy value obtained from the Force Ductility Test as a new index that takes the place of penetration. In this study, deterioration characteristics of the modified asphalt mixture and collected asphalt was examined by using an accelerated aging method, and evaluates performance of recycled mixture including modified asphalt.
The present result suggested that it is possible to reproduce asphalt mixture which has equal fatigue cracking resistance to or higher than straight asphalt mixture, by manage contain ratio of old modified asphalt and the deterioration stage. The energy value obtained from the Force Ductility Test becomes a new index that takes the place of the penetration.
