The annual comparison for the growth state of crops using time-series MODIS data in South Australia

Atsushi RIKIMARU, Kazuyoshi TAKAHASHI

Australia is a huge exporter country that support the supply-demand of the staple food globally. However, Australia”Ēs crops are severely affected by the recent drought. The poor harvest in Australia, a huge exporter country does result in worse effect to the supply-demand of the staple food globally. This study aims to figure out drought cause growth-stress crop area in south Australia by using MODIS observational data.Time-series NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) was compiled from the reflection coefficient which consist of Red and near-infrared band of the time-series MODIS observational data.We figure out the annually crop growing characteristic by using time-series NDVI.We extracted sensitive crop area from the annually crop characteristic and estimated crop yields.Extracted sensitive crop areas are coinciding with the investigation report done by south Australia government. We had compared the estimated crop yields with the statistical data by south Australia government. As a result, the estimate error is 5[%]
