Influence of Spatial Non-uniformity in Corrosion of Steel Bars in Reinforeced Concrete Member on Flexural Load Carrying Behavior

Takumi SHIMOMURA

Recently, a lot of research has been done about the structural performance of corroded RC beams and columns.
This study focuses on spatial non-uniformity in corrosion of steel bars in reinforced concrete member.By Electrolytic corrosion tests, reinforced concrete beams which include nonuniformly corroded rebars were made. Those RC beams are loaded in flexural.
Additionally, this study focuses on deterioration of bonding due to corrosion.Steel bars which are corroded preliminary, are embedded in reinforced concrete beams. Those beams are also loaded in flexural.
As a result, it is confirmed that the influence of nonuniform corrosion on flexural capacity is small. When the anchorage of longitudinal steel bars are strong enough, the influence of deterioration of bonding on flexural capacity is small too.But deterioration of bonding leads to less performance in cracking distribution. The flexural capacity is able to be estimated roughly with the consideration of total sectional area of steel bars.
