Influence of concrete quality on deterioration of structural performance of members

Takumi SHIMOMURA

Recently, a lot of research has been done about the deterioration of reinforced concrete members. However, there are a lot of factors for the deterioration of reinforced concrete member. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct an experiment of which the point aimed at is clear. In this study, we deal with the influence of initial defect of concrete such as bleeding and bending clack. We made several reinforced concrete beams by changing the amount of bleeding, the direction of casting, and the presence of the bending crack. Then these beams are corroded electrochemically. After that, these beams are loaded in flexural.
As a result, localized corrosion was observed where the bending crack occurred. Moreover, the initial defect that was caused by bleeding led to the expansion of corroded area. Even if localized corrosion of steel bars is caused, the yield load and the maximum load of RC beams are able to be predicted by using the maximum cross-sectional loss of steel bars
