A Study on the Evaluation of the Anti-icing Effect by using PRMS Multi Functional Method

Teruhiko MARUYAMA

PRMS (Permeable Resin Mortar System) Multi Functional Method is a reinforcement to be filled up the surface of porous asphalt pavements with elastic resin mortar. This method has a physical anti-icing effect as one of the functions. The evaluation method of for the anti-icing effect has not been established until now. It is necessary to develop an estimation method that can evaluate the anti-icing effect quantitatively. The purposes of this study are to confirm the anti-icing effect of the PRMS multi functional method and to specify the influence factor that the ice is broken.
In PRMS multi functional method, the anti-icing effect is difficult to evaluate, because the composition of materials of an elastic body and a non-elastic body is used. Therefore I made the model that simplified real pavement and examined the dynamic performance in the freeze road surface by carrying out the experiment.
I used a filling area, filling depth, and the flexibility of resin mortar as the parameters of the model. As a result, it was clear that the parameters which have a big influence on the anti-icing effect are the filling area and the flexibility. And, it was understood that the filling depth with some certain depth has small influence.
From the result of this study, in order to enlarge the anti-icing effect, it is recommended to use the bigger maximum grade of the porous asphalt mixture and to improve the flexibility of the resin mortar.
