Influence that Fatigue Load and Shrinkage of Concrete Exert on Bending Crack Width of RC Members

Supervisorˇ§Takumi SHIMOMURA

In this research, bending fatigue test of the RC beam and tensile test of uniaxial RC specimens were carried out to investigate the influence of shrinkage and creep of concrete and fatigue load on crack width of concrete structures.
In bending fatigue test of the RC beam, the influence that fatigue and creep on crack width was examined. As a result, it was found that deflection and crack width are more increased under fatigue load than sustainable load. The dominant reason of increasing of crack width under fatigue load was considered propagation of crack due to fatigue load.
The influence of shrinkage of concrete was examined by tensile test of uniaxial RC members made of concrete having different magnitude of shrinkage..As results, in case that shrinkage of concrete is greater, it much affects tensile behavior of the member. It was verified that crack width can be adequately estimated by taking into account deformation and stress induced by concrete shrinkage before loading.
