A Study On Evaluation Indices Of Asphalt Pavement Structures Using FWD Deflection

Teruhiko Maruyama

This study describes a nondestructive pavement structural evaluation using deflection data obtained from Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD). The Deflection evaluation indices are determined from a deflection basin measured by FWD. The relationship between the equivalent layer thickness and the deflection indices has been discussed to establish a new regression equation, which is used to assess a structural capacity of the pavements. This study emphasizes that proper usage of FWD data involves an evaluation of all section-specific distress information. To select an appropriate coefficient of equivalent layer, correlation analysis was carried out by changing the coefficient of equivalent layer from 0.1 to 1.0 on larger deflection sections.
As the result, this study proposes the new regression equation having the evaluation indices for estimating a bearing capacity of pavements.
