The nighttime traffic in Nagaoka city and the research regarding bus utilization
Kazushi SANOˇ¦Shoji MATSUMOTO

As car-oriented society develops, public transport, especially route bus,
reduces its ridership in many of local cities in our country. This study
aims to show a relationship between increasing the number of evening bus
services and having more opportunities for bus use, assuming that the
small
number of bus services in the evening causes to depress people to take
buses.
Thus, in the beginning, questionnaire surveys are conducted for evening
bus
passengers and households along a target bus line, in order to see actual
use of people under the current service level and their intentions of bus
ride under virtually increased service levels. Secondly, revealing
characteristics on bus passengers and opportunity of bus ride through data
analysis, we consider effective ways of increasing evening bus services
