A Study for the Estimation Method of Snow Melting Map with Regional Adjustment Analysis Using Multi-temporal MODIS Images

Atsushi RIKIMARU, Kazuyoshi TAKAHASHI

The remote sensing technology is effective to understand the snow distribution. But, when the ground level is covered by cloud, information on the ground level cannot be obtained. Therefore,¡¡the method for estimating the snow distribution under the cloud has been researched. However, the method doesn¡Çt consider that the difference of the speed of the melting of snow by the difference between the annual and the place. This study purpose is to improve the method of estimating snow distribution under the cloud by considering a regional characteristic of the melting of snow.
These studies extract the snow area from MODIS data from 2001 to 2006. And we make a Snow Frequency Image from those images. We specify the area where a regional characteristic was similar by using information on the snow boundary. The method of estimating snow distribution is done by using information only in a regional characteristic similar area. There are two kinds of the methods. We calculate the agreement rate by comparing an actual snow area with the result of estimation. As a result, the agreement rate became 58.6% and 72.8%.
We estimate snow distribution by 30 kinds of images by using the method of estimating snow distribution to evaluate it
