Study on Measurement Method for Water Content of Concrete in terms of its Surface Color

Based on an idea obtained from an empirical fact that surface color of pourous material changes according with its moisture state, I conducted an experimental investigation on possibility of estimation of moisture content in concrete by its surface color.
First, we developed the method to quantify the surface color of concrete using a digital camera and a computer software.
Next, I carried out a laboratory test on change of concrete surface color as a function of moisture content under the processes of drying, absorption and water suction.
Then, we discussed the general relationships between the moisture content and the surface color of concrete applicable to those three processes of drying, absorption and water suction taking moisture distribution in concrete into account.
