Feasibility of Introducing Car Sharing for a Local City Based on Stated Preferences

The time when a car is driven in Japan is only 2.8% on an average, and remaining time of 97.2% are in a parking lot. In order to prevent aggravation of traffic environment or city environment and to control civic private car expenses, a car-sharing (CS) measure attracts attention as a effective mean. CS spread in Europe, such as in Germany and Switzerland, and came even in North America. However, in Japan, it is understood by citizens that CS has not been yet spread. In this research, the factor related to the survey of CS participating consciousness in Nagaoka has been grasped from the questionnaire, and it aimed at examining the feasibility of CS. Consequently, with CS participating consciousness, the difference was greatly regarded as those who have high consciousness to CS participation, and the man of low consciousness. Participating consciousness falls, so that a difference is seen by age in an attribute, age takes for becoming high, participating consciousness becomes high and it becomes low. Moreover, in the place-of-residence region, it turned out that participating consciousness is high around the Nagaoka station compared with other areas.
