Preparation and characterization of piezoelectric ceramics free from lead oxide by Pulse current sintering pressure sintering

Kazumasa MATSUSHITA

Development of piezoelectric material which is free from lead oxide is demanded, because most of piezoelectric ceramics include a large amount of toxic lead-oxide. Generally, more excellent piezoelectricity performance has been improved by substituting the cation of different ion radius to distort the crystal lattice. In this study, it is the purpose to improve the piezoelectric performance by substituting a part of barium ion in BaTiO3 for potassium ion with near ionic radius in order to create oxygen defect. The specimens were prepared by Pulse current pressure sintering. Volatilization of potassium was restrained by Pulse current pressure sintering. When potassium was added more than 5 mol%, dense sintered bodies were not obtained. It was observed that density was increased when potassium oxide was added. It was also found behavior as electrostriction body by addition of potassium oxide
