Acquisition and Application of River Channel Geometry of Small Rivers Using Laser Profiler

Mianjio LU

In recent years, laser profiler is used for the acquisition of space information of river channel. Most of them use other surveying data besides of laser profiler data. Because there is few river channel information for small local rivers,
adaptation of these methods are difficult. We studied the acquisition of the spatial river channel information using only laser profiler data.

The height of vegetation in high-water part of the channel is removed automatically by using planned dike cross-section. The proposed method to acquire cross-section geometry showed its propriety through the comparison with manually surveyed cross-section. In addition, we showed that the cross section geometry acquired could be used as an alternative in river flow simulation.
