A study on failure simulation of dike at high water level of river
Satoru OHTSUKA
In stability assessment of river dike, the classical methods of the one dimension equilibrium equation for seepage force by Terzaghi and the circular arc method have been used. However, these methods are based on excess simplifications on phenomenon and difficult to be applied to detailed consideration on failure assessment. In this study, the coupling method of instauration-saturation seepage analysis and rigid plastic finite element analysis is developed to take into account both seepage failure and strength change by degree of saturation. The applicability of proposed method was clearly shown through the case studies in comparison with classical methods and model tests. The proposed method well expressed failure mechanisms of river dike for both seepage force and strength change due to degree of saturation.
