A Study of Counter Measure Effect on Slope Stability with Numerical Method

Satoru OHTSUKA

In practice, the design of slope counter measure is based on the limit equilibrium method.
The limit equilibrium method is simple and effective, however, it has problems not to sufficiently take account of the detailed mechanism of slope failure, especially on the interaction between counter measure and slope. It has been made clear that the rigid plastic finite element method (RPFEM) can estimate practical slope stability in the previous study. In this study, the counter measure was modeled as beam element, and introduced into RPFEM by using the rigid plastic theory in order to express the interaction between counter measure and slope. Through numerical analysis on stability effect of counter measures, the applicability of this approach to quantitative estimate of counter measures was shown.
