Research on The Functional Improvement of Porous Asphalt Pavements
Teruhiko MARUYAMA
This study made to estimate applicability to freezing-prevention pavements, and mechanical properties of porous asphalt mixture containing the rubber chips. The surface of these rubber chips is coated with polyurethane resin and mineral powder. And the effect of the surface treatment also was estimated.
For estimation of the surface treatment, several tests described as follows were done. Direct tensile test, static bending test, wheel tracking test and chain ravelling test. These test result showed the surface treatment strengthen the adherence between asphalt binder and rubber chips.
Repeated compression test was conducted for estimating elasticity of the porous asphalt mixture containing the rubber chips. And the result indicated the asphalt mixture containing the rubber chips was larger deformation volume and deformable compared to asphalt mixture without rubber chips. In addition, the mixtures that contain rubber chips was found to have breaking function of ice plates by conducting special tensile test against ice bonding force.
