Low melting phosphate glasses without PbO

Low melting glasses have been widely used in electronics deveces.However most of conventional these glasses contain a lot of toxic lead oxide.In this study, the based on P2O5 were prepared.It was purposed to develop of low melting glasses without PbO.It is generary said that phosphate glasses are low chemical durability.By reseaching preparing the phosphate glasses in wide compositions, it was found that a large amount of cerium oxide improves chemical durability.This was due to reduction of cerium and change of coordination number.Therefore, it was considered that the glass sturucture becomes dense and prevents water diffusion.It was possible to develop new low melting glasses with high chemical durability which contain a lot of cerium oxide.
