Development of phosphate recovery technology from wastewater by DHS reactor.

OHASHI Akiyoshi, IMACHI Hiroyuki, HARADA Hideki

For the developing country, this laboratory has proposed the system that combines UASB with the DHS (Downflow Hanging Sponge) reactor as a sewage treatment system, which it is low-cost and the control of maintenance is easy. The continuous treatment experiment of real sewage by the UASB & DHS reactor showed that the BOD and ammonia nitrogen removal rate are about 95% or more and 70% respectively. This originates the fact that the sludge maintenance ability is very high. Therefore, it is possible to long term and continuous drive without withdrawing out the excess sludge. However, the performance of a past DHS reactor is only data of the sewage treatment water of the UASB method. Therefore, the DHS reactor is uncertain accept drainage directly and appropriately treatable. Then, this research executed the continuous treatment experiment of artificial wastewater directly by the DHS reactor. At the same time, the phosphorus recovery experiment was examined
