Study on Diagonal Tensile Strength of Form Composite Light-weight Soil, Part 2

Takaya KAINO

Diagonal tensile strength of Form Composite Light-weight Soil (abbr. FCL) is important factor for quakeproof design of FCL banking, because it is an index for earthquake resistant. Hoshino carried out horizontal loading test in 2001 and he got a result that the diagonal tensile strength of 1/14 of unconfined compressive strength. However, there was left the question about his result, because there were some unfit parts in the examination apparatus. Therefore in this study, I improved the examination apparatus to reevaluate the diagonal tensile strength of FCL and carried out horizontal loading test again. The followings are the main results that obtained in this study.

(1) Shear strength caused by horizontal load destruction form of FCL were influenced by vertical stress, unconfined compressive strength and existence of the side shear stress generative instrument.

(2) It is observed that diagonal tensile strength of FCL is 1/11 of unconfined compressive strength.
