Cross correlation analysis of snowfall intensities in Hokuriku

Toshiro KUMAKURA

Many studies have been published on snowfall mechanism in Hokuriku. And the research with a meteorological radar have been done for a long time. The studies that relate to the behavior of the snowfall are necessary for revealing the snowfall mechanism. In this study, the horizontal distribution of the cross correlation between the rainfall intensity in a reference point and the rainfall intensity in other points in Hokuriku is obtained. Then, following results are found.
1) The distribution of the correlation coefficient is different between a plain region and a mountainous region, where the reference point is selected.
2) Though the reference point is not changed, the distribution of the correlation coefficient is different in each year.
3) It seems to precipitate in Toyama Bay two hours before it snows in the plain region in Niigata according to be observed lower temperature and larger snowfall amount in the plain region.
