Some Considerations on Mix Design of Concrete Containing Large Amount of Sewage Sludge

SuperviserFKyuichi MARUYAMA

In recent years, the amount of generating sewage sludge is increasing.@Therefore, the development of methods of using sewage sludge effectively has become an important subject. Based on such present conditions, this study examines the problems on the mix design using sewage sludge as a concrete aggregate. In case sewage sludge used as a concrete aggregate, it is difficult to control slump and compressive strength quantitatively. Hence, it is important to develop an evaluation method.

This study aims to examine quantitatively the evaluation of slump and compressive strength in terms of mix design by adding some amount of chemical admixture. The results obtained are as follows.
1)The amount of chemical admixture addition required to obtain the predicted slump increases with the amount of sewage sludge.
2)The compressive strength of concrete containing large amount of sewage sludge can generally be predicted from the water-cement ratio.
