Influence of Desalination on Prestressing Steel

SupervisorFKyuichi MARUYAMA

Chloride attack is a serious problem to cause corrosion of steel bar in concrete. When desalination is applied to prestressing steel bars with lacking section steel bar, the failure of steel bar at lacking section part is part of concern.
In this study, desalination was applied to prestressing steel bars with steel bar corroded by electricity. Desalination was conducted with electric current strength and treatment period as variables. The failure of steel bar was not observed in this experiment. In addition, the quantity of hydrogen occlusion into prestressing steel bars was determined by measuring its quantity right after desalination. It was reported that the hydrogen embrittlement was caused by diffusible hydrogen occluded into steel bar. The residual chloride ion quantity in specimens after desalination and the natural potential were measured. And the corrosion control effect of prestressing steel bars was identified by these measurement data.
