A Study on Viscosity Characteristics of Asphalt-Rubber

Teruhiko MARUYAMA

There is a kind of pavement called Asphalt-Rubber in the United States. Asphalt-Rubber is the pavement which mixed crumb rubber in binder. Crumb rubber is made from waste passenger car tires or waste truck tires.
The feature of Asphalt-Rubber binder is high viscosity. If viscosity becomes high, the intensity and the durability of pavement can be improved. However, viscosity of Asphalt-Rubber binder has many unknown points. The purpose of this study is to figure out the viscosity characteristics of Asphalt-Rubber binder and find out the condition which can be optimal viscosity. Specifically, viscosity test and microscope observation were carried out. As the result of viscosity test grasp of viscosity characteristics of Asphalt-Rubber was completed.
Moreover, in order to put Asphalt-Rubber to practice, examination of eerubber chip mixing open-graded Asphalt-Rubberee was also performed. In this study, mix design of rubber chip mixing open-graded Asphalt-Rubber was performed. Marshall stability test and percentage of air voids test were carried out as mix design. Consequently, mixture which fills target stability was able to be determined.
