Mode Choice Model for Commuters Considering Acceptability of Bus Priority Schemes

This study focuses on bus priority schemes such as bus exclusive lanes and government subsidy to solve traffic problems in commuting and analyses factors and their cause-effect relationship for enhancing acceptability of bus priority schemes.Questionnaire survey was conducted in the urban area of Niigata,Japan.An analysis by the structural equation model showed that environmental concerns influence psychological two factors such as 'reduce car usefandejustice and equity of bus service priorityf,and the two factors influence the acceptability of bus priority schemes.Next,we developed a mode-choice and latent variables integrated model and revealed that psychological promotion itself have an effect on commutersfmode shift into public transit.
And finally ,we compare the acceptability of bus priority for car users in Yogyakarta,Indonesia with that in Niigata.The analysis suggests that structural strategy such as the improvement of bus service level plays a more important role than psychological factors in Yogyakarta.
