Property estimation of P2O5-ZnO glass prepared in reducing ambient

Kazumasa Matsusita

Most of low melting glasses presently used for sealing and coating of the electronic parts contain a lot of lead compounds being environmental pollution substances. So developing new low melting glass is urgent in order to reduce the effects on the environment.
In this study, the effect of adding reducing agent on various properties of P2O5-CuOx-ZnO glass having the potential to be new low melting glass was investigated. It is known that valence of Cu ions changes by reducing agent. Changes of physical properties of P2O5-ZnO glass prepared in reducing ambient were researched with a view to understanding exactly the glass structure.
As a result, glass transition temperature became higher and the density increased as reducing agent increased. From these results, it was found that the glass structure was changed by reducing agent.
