Corrosion Properties of Steel Bars Undertaking Plastic Deformation


@The Great Hanshin Earthquake brought serious damage to the large area of the Hanshin district. In order to return to the original life from the damage of a calamity, a lot of restoration works were conducted to cut down the expense of restoration work, the steel bars which undertook plastic deformation. At once were re-used. Therefore, it is necessary to examine the characteristic of the steel bars which experienced the plastic deformation history. The mechanical properties of re-used steel bars have been reported in the past researches but the corrosion properties of such bars are not yet understood.

In this study the electrolytic corrosion test was conducted to accelerate corrosion of steel bars. The parameter was the rate of yield deformation. The test results showed that the rate of yield deformation did not influence the behavior of corrosion of steel bars.
