Corrosion Mechanism of Reinforcing Bar in Concrete with Flexural Crack

SupervisorFTakumi SHIMOMURA

The objective of this study is to examine the influence of flexural crack width and concrete quality on steel bar corrosion under the environment with airborne salt through the systematic experiment. The exposing tests of reinforced concrete specimens were carried out under the accelerated corrosive environment with splash of salt water. Based on the results of measured distribution of chloride ions and corrosion state of the steel bar, the possibility of macro cell corrosion and the influence of crack width and concrete quality on the corrosion were discussed. Numerical analysis of transport of aggressive agents and corrosion was also executed in this study. Corrosion mechanism of reinforcing steel bar in concrete was discussed comparing the experimental and analytical results.
