Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Upgrading of Existing Concrete Structures by Externally Bonded Continuous Fiber Sheet

SupervisorFTakumi SHIMOMURA

The objectives of this study are to quantify the effectiveness of upgrading of existing concrete structures by continuous fiber sheet bonded on the surface of concrete and to develop a service-life prediction method of structures, in which the role of continuous fiber sheet is considered.
Permeability for chloride ion in the layer of continuous fiber sheet with epoxy resin was determined by comparing the experimental result in electric erosion test with the analytical result by numerical simulation.
Applicability of continuous fiber sheet as a mechanical reinforcement for corroded reinforced concrete member was examined by the uniaxial tensile test.
Effectiveness of continuous fiber sheet on upgrading of durability and load carrying capacity of existing concrete structures was demonstrated through the numerical lifespan simulation, in which the quantified role of continuous fiber sheet is considered
