A Study on the Solid Elements Applicable to Thin Structure

Eiji IWASAKI Masatugu NAGAI

In the finite element method, a plate or shell elements and beam elements are used
for a thin and slender structure, however their elements have the restriction on analysis,
and some problems.
The solid element is developed as an element that solves the problem. Furthermore,
development is performed to the efficient solid element. If it extends to the nonlinear
analysis in the updated Lagrangian formulation, some problems arise in the previous
solid element. Then, this study solves this problem.
The following results are obtained in this study.
EThese proposed solid elements are better than previous solid elements.
EThese elements avoid the shear locking by introducing shear locking controlled parameter ƒ¿.
EAs a result of analyzing with four kinds of elements considered in this study, 'Plate1'
element can analyze with sufficient accuracy by both of plate and beam like
members.
