Study on Durability Improvement of Buried Joint Asphalt Layer by Resin Reinforcement

Osamu TAKAHASHI

Buried joint that distributes modification of a girder exists in a highway bridge.

In recent years, the law of road structure is revised and many open graded asphalt concrete came to be used. Therefore, Buried joint also needs to use open graded asphalt concrete for a surface. However, if it remains as it is, the durability of a buried joint asphalt layer is inadequate. Then, the asphalt layer was reinforced by resin.

In order to evaluate the reinforcement effect of resin, the direct tension test, the statically flexure test and repetition flexure test were performed.

As a result of the test, although failure strain of reinforced open graded asphalt concrete fell, failure stress and stiffness became large. Since stiffness became large, strain dispersion function improved and was able to make small strain to generate. Moreover, open graded asphalt concrete has checked excelling in fatigue failure resistance.

From the above thing, it was estimated that resin reinforcement was effective in the durability improvement of the buried joint Asphalt layer that used open graded asphalt concrete.
