Research on Residential Use of Flood Map in Koriyama

The flood disaster by typhoon 6 in July 2002 is the first flood for a resident of Koriyama to utilize the revised Koriyama Flood Hazard Map. This flood hazard map is the revised edition based on Koriyama Flood Hazard Map published in March, 2000 and considered the flood in August, 1998 as teachings.
The purpose of this study is to grasp the actual conditions of inhabitants' utilization and evaluation of revised Koriyama Flood Hazard Map based on Flood Disaster by Typhoon 6 in July, 2002 by a questionnaire survey.
The following are the main results of the study. The first, a resident of Koriyama set a high valuation on this map on the whole. The second, in this flood, the evacuation ratio of residents who had referred to this map was higher than those who had not. The third, the main point of revision of this map, conditional approval of evacuation using cars in cooperation with fixing 'preparation warning for evacuation', was almost accepted as compared with the past floods. The forth, however some local governments had tendency to avoid providing information of inundation in the past, most inhabitants need such information, and providing such information leads to mold the confidence of inhabitants in administrative measures for flood disaster prevention.
